and international students covertly compare rankings...
On March 29, Beijing time,
U.S. News released
its 2023 Best Graduate Schools rankings!
Unlike previous years, in addition to the six major discipline-based program rankings—business, law, education, engineering, medicine, and nursing—and other specialized rankings, U.S. News this year added doctoral program rankings in mathematics, statistics, biological sciences, earth sciences, and more.
At the same time, U.S. News took into account factors including acceptance rates, student-faculty ratios, GRE/GMAT/LSAT/MCAT scores, research output, employment outcomes, and more, with methodological adjustments in certain areas according to specific circumstances.

2023 Best Business Schools
Wow, this year's business school ranking features six schools in the top three.
The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School are locked in a duel for the top spot. Former business school king Stanford dropped to third, tied with Northwestern.
Meanwhile, the previously unheralded Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan has been steadily rising as a dark horse and has now become one of the top ten business schools nationwide.
2023 Best Engineering Schools
The engineering school rankings are less dramatic this year, with MIT still reigning supreme in first place.
Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, Berkeley, and other powerhouse tech schools are hot on its heels, dominating the top ten of the engineering school rankings!
However, there is cause for celebration: UT Austin, after years of also-ran status, finally leaped from 12th last year all the way to sixth!
2023 Best Education Schools
Penn, the perennial runner-up, can finally hold its head high in the education school rankings—and it holds sole possession of the number one spot.
Last year's co-leader Harvard fell short this time, dropping to second.
And the University of California, Irvine, which was ranked 15th last year, quietly grabbed the last seat in the top ten.
2023 Best Public Affairs Schools
The public affairs school ranking is even more intriguing.
Indiana University and Syracuse University are tied for first, and five schools share third place—so that makes seven schools in the top three—and an astonishing eight schools tied for 12th.
Are they playing a game of human pyramid here?
2023 Best Computer Science Schools
The rankings for the ever-popular CS field haven't changed much—yet there's an interesting twist:
Supposedly, the four musketeers were going to walk the flower path together, but MIT secretly worked harder and now enjoys the top spot all by itself.
Meanwhile, last year's co-first-place holders Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, and Berkeley had to settle for a drop and are now tied for second.
