Recently, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) released the 2022-23 World University Rankings.
Nearly 20,000 institutions participated this year, with 2,000 ultimately making the CWUR global list.
Compared to other world university rankings, CWUR stands out for its data sources. It does not rely on traditional surveys or data provided by schools; instead, it independently evaluates education quality, alumni employment, faculty strength, and research performance, maintaining the objectivity of a third-party assessor.

Ranking Methodology
CWUR evaluates global universities using seven indicators, grouped into four key areas: Education Quality, Alumni Employment, Faculty Strength, and Research Performance.

Overview: US Institutions Continue to Lead Globally
Of the 2,000 institutions ranked in this year's CWUR World University Rankings, 335 are from the United States, 302 from China, 94 from the United Kingdom, 42 from Canada, and 39 from Australia.
In the global Top 10, the US claims eight spots, with four of those being Ivy League schools. The UK has two institutions in the top ten.
The top five universities are the same as last year: Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Cambridge, and Oxford. This marks Harvard's eleventh consecutive year at number one.
Rounding out the top ten are: Princeton University, Columbia University, the University of Chicago, the University of Pennsylvania, and the California Institute of Technology, ranked 6th through 10th.
The US also captures 20 of the world's Top 30 universities. Other countries represented in the Top 30 include: the UK with 4, Japan with 2, Canada with 2, France with 1, and Switzerland with 1.
Country-Specific Highlights
United States
The dominance of US higher education has been a constant since the inception of the CWUR rankings in 2012, spanning over a decade.
This year, 335 US institutions are ranked in the CWUR Global Top 2000. All Ivy League schools are within the global Top 70.
US universities occupy 20 of the Top 30 spots, led predominantly by private institutions. Six Ivy League schools make the list, and NYU has consistently ranked among the world's top 30 for years.
The 6 US public universities in the Top 30 are: UC Berkeley, University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, UCLA, UIUC, University of Washington, and UW–Madison.
United Kingdom
This year, 94 UK institutions are ranked.
Four G5 universities are in the Top 30: Cambridge (4th), Oxford (5th), UCL (21st), and Imperial College London (30th).
Cambridge has been the highest-ranked public university in the world for the eighth consecutive year.
LSE is ranked outside the top 300 this year.
Canada
This year, 42 Canadian institutions are ranked.
The University of Toronto and McGill University are in the Top 30, at 24th and 28th respectively.
China
Mainland China has 302 institutions ranked this year, 25 more than last year, the second-highest number of any country.
Tsinghua University, Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Zhejiang University are all in the Top 100, ranked 47th, 51st, 63rd, 80th, and 97th respectively, all improving from last year.
Additionally, the C9 League (which includes Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Xi'an Jiaotong University) also improved its rankings this year.
Australia
Australia has 39 institutions ranked this year.
The University of Melbourne and the University of Sydney are in the Top 100, at 58th and 98th respectively.
