2022 Asia University Rankings: Tsinghua and Peking Lead, Singapore and Hong Kong Powerhouses Fill Top 10

Recently, Times Higher Education released the 2022 Asia University Rankings. Tsinghua University topped the list for the fourth consecutive year, Peking University ranked second, and top schools like the National University of Singapore and the University of Hong Kong followed closely. In this ranking, 30 universities from mainland China made the top 100, while 3 from Hong Kong and 2 from Singapore strongly advanced into the Asian top ten, showcasing the strong academic strength of top Asian universities and providing important school selection references for students applying to multiple destinations.

Recently, Times Higher Education (THE), one of the four most authoritative ranking agencies, officially released the 2022 Asia University Rankings.

Ranking Indicators and Weights

 

This ranking uses the same 13 indicators as the THE World University Rankings, but the weights have been adjusted to reflect the characteristics of universities in Asia.

 

These indicators comprehensively evaluate Asian universities based on five areas: Teaching, Research, Citations, International Outlook, Industry Income.

 

    1. Teaching (the learning environment): 25%

    2. Research (volume, income and reputation): 30%

    3. Citations (research influence): 30%

    4. International Outlook (staff, students and research): 7.5%

    5. Industry Income (knowledge transfer): 7.5%

 

 

THE Asia University Rankings Highlights

 

Tsinghua University topped the list for the fourth consecutive year! Peking University has been in second place for three years in a row. The National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong, and Nanyang Technological University followed closely. Fudan University entered the Top 10 for the first time.

 

Including Hong Kong, China had a total of 6 universities in the top ten this time.

 

 

Japan once again became the country with the most universities on the list, with 118 universities from Japan making the rankings, up from 116 last year; mainland China had 97 universities on the list, ranking second overall.

 

 

Mainland China Universities Ranking

 

Mainland China continued to deliver an impressive performance in this ranking. Tsinghua University and Peking University took first and second place.

 

A total of 30 universities from mainland China ranked in the top 100, with 22 universities improving or maintaining their rankings.

 

 

Hong Kong Universities Ranking

 

A total of 6 universities from Hong Kong made the list.

 

Of these, three universities ranked in the Top 10: the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

 

 

Singapore Universities Ranking

 

Singapore had two universities on the list, both in the Top 10.

 

The National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, as Singapore's two national treasure-level universities, can stand shoulder to shoulder with top universities in the UK and US in the THE World University Rankings.

 

 

As popular study destinations for combined applications to multiple locations, universities in Singapore and Hong Kong face considerable competition pressure each year.
