Entertainment Industry Management (Master of Entertainment Industry Management)

The Entertainment Industry Management (MEIM) program combines CMU's renowned creative arts from the College of Fine Arts with Heinz College's management and quantitative expertise, enabling students to make an impact in development, marketing, production, distribution, and strategy across all levels of the global entertainment market.
Curriculum Introduction:
The MEIM program at CMU is a two-year program.
In the first year, students build core foundations at CMU's home base in Pittsburgh, with coursework primarily focused on business, such as Marketing, Economics, Finance, Statistical Methods, Negotiation, and more.
In the second year, students move to Los Angeles for study and practice, with courses emphasizing industry experience. Students are required to complete 30 hours of practice per week, and instructors are Hollywood veterans. The capstone project spans the entire Los Angeles academic year, using real-world media companies as case studies for analysis and solution proposals.

Program Strengths:
The MEIM is industry-focused. Compared to other disciplines, the program provides better quantitative management and strategic skills than film schools, and offers more entertainment-related courses and experiences than business schools. MEIM has rapidly become a premier training program for entertainment professionals in the U.S. and globally, taking students beyond the classroom to build connections with the film, television, gaming, and music industries.
The two-year MEIM program provides students with many valuable experiential learning opportunities, such as exclusive on-site classroom workshops with industry-leading executives, ongoing access to practitioners through networking events and special activities, leading to full-time internship opportunities in film, television, gaming, or music, accumulating over 1,000 hours of industry internship experience. There are also projects with major entertainment clients and group trips to film festivals, including Sundance, SXSW, Cannes, and more.

Career Paths and Future Development:
Heinz College places great emphasis on career development. The program has a dedicated Career Services Director who works individually with each MEIM student. On average, 80% of MEIM graduates secure full-time employment in screen-based media or music entertainment within three months of graduation. Graduates primarily find positions at entertainment media studios and production companies, talent agencies, record labels, marketing firms, game developers, media companies, and more.
