Application Advice
Based on past application experience, although the language requirements are low, actual admissions may expect scores of 88+ / 6.5+.
Some programs require interviews, and a good interview performance can effectively boost admission chances.
In the early admission round, NUS tends to favor students from 985/211 and overseas undergraduate institutions. Applicants from non-top-tier Chinese universities without exceptionally outstanding profiles are advised against applying.
In addition to the 13 programs mentioned above, the priority round for the MSc in Financial Engineering opened on May 13, with an expected deadline of August 11. Interested students should submit their applications promptly.

What Are the Advantages of Early Admissions?
Spread Risk Across Rounds, Boost Success Rate
Early admissions are like the school giving applicants an extra life.
It is well known that applying in the early round does not affect subsequent rounds—even if rejected, no record is kept.
Additionally, through the early application results, applicants can identify gaps, adjust strategies, add or drop programs, and increase their chances of receiving an offer.
Simplified Application Materials, Shorter Prep Time
Taking NUS early admissions as an example, most programs only require academic materials like transcripts, resumes, and language scores. Some require additional recommendation letters, but none ask for personal statements.

This greatly reduces preparation time, which is a major advantage for applicants with strong stats and high-tier academic backgrounds. They can complete submissions relatively quickly and seize the initiative under rolling admissions.
Short Application Window, Fixed Outcome Timeline
Many early admission rounds are open for only about two months, and the outcome release dates are clearly stated on the official websites. Even without specific dates, results are usually known by September.

Using the CUHK Business School early admissions as an example, applicants typically have two months to submit, then simply wait for the school's response around September.
If you are fortunate enough to receive an offer, you can either end your application season or apply to higher-tier schools. Not getting an offer is also fine—learn from the experience and proceed with the regular round without any delay.
It's a win-win choice. Why not give yourself an extra chance?

Not Considering Early Admissions? How to Still Get a Head Start?
They say the key to graduate school applications is breaking information barriers. Today, CheersYou(清柚教育) has compiled 10 essential pre-application preparations, covering transcripts, recommendation letters, GRE, background enhancement, personal statements, resumes, and online applications.
We hope this helps you identify gaps, break information barriers, and prepare early to get a head start!
Check Program-Specific Requirements
Each graduate program, across universities and schools, has its own application requirements, which may be updated annually.
Especially for those planning to switch fields, research in advance to confirm whether you meet prerequisite course requirements.
For example, CMU's Computational Finance (MSCF) has the following prerequisites:
- Calculus I and II
- Linear Algebra
- Calculus-based Probability
- At least one semester of an object-oriented programming language course (C++, Java, Python, C#). Preferably more than one semester.

WES/CHESICC Transcript Authentication
Non-U.S. undergraduate students often need to get their transcripts authenticated when applying to American schools.
For Chinese undergraduate students, the entire authentication process usually takes over a month. Depending on individual circumstances and external factors, it may take one to three months.
.png)
CHESICC authentication generally takes 20-30 working days

WES authentication generally takes 7 working days
As transcripts are a crucial part of your application, please be careful: do not let the authentication process delay your entire application timeline.
Obtain Proof of Enrollment or Diploma
Some universities or programs in certain countries/regions may require proof of enrollment or graduation certificates during the online application process.
Whether you have graduated or not, if your target program requires this documentation, apply for it in advance or download an electronic version.

GRE/GMAT/TOEFL/IELTS Standardized Tests
Chinese undergraduate students generally must submit language scores; overseas undergraduates may have a waiver option.
For GRE/GMAT, even with optional status, most programs still accept scores, and a good score can strengthen your application.
For instance, Penn Engineering encourages students in the 2023-24 application cycle to submit scores if available, noting that a good GRE score could positively impact the application.

Recommender Invitations and Confirmation
Graduate applications typically require 2-3 recommendation letters, including academic and professional references.
Do not wait until peak invitation seasons like September to approach professors. Before the online application opens, you can also provide your CV and personal statement to your recommenders to help them write more targeted letters.

Supplementing Background Experience: Internships/Research
Seeking highly relevant internships or participating in valuable research projects can significantly boost your application.
Different graduate programs have different preferences for experiences. For example, Northwestern's IMC program advises applicants to detail their undergraduate internship experiences and clearly describe future career plans in the application essay.

Once you have confirmed your target program's requirements, if relevant practical opportunities arise, go all out during this period.
Confirm Program Deadlines (DDL)
Deadlines vary by country/region, university, school, and program.
Graduate programs also have different deadline types, such as priority, rolling, and multiple-round admissions.
Before the online application opens, manage your time carefully.

Understand Essay Requirements and Outline Your Essays
A personal statement can sometimes directly determine whether an applicant is admitted or rejected.
Now is the time to research your target programs, brainstorm, and outline your essays.
If time permits, you can even start drafting your first versions.

Establish Resume Framework and Emphasis
Different programs may emphasize different aspects of your resume.
Some schools explicitly state what they look for in a resume; simply follow those prompts.

For programs without explicit instructions, thoroughly research and try to understand what admissions officers prefer.
Create Online Application Accounts and Upload Information
Regardless of where or which program you apply to, your online application account is as important as an ID number.
Set up your account early, enter the application system, select your programs, confirm materials, and submit application information.
