Starting November 18, 2024, Chinese embassies and consulates in the U.S. will launch an "online application + in-person fingerprinting" process for passport services.
For international students who need to renew their passports thereafter, after submitting a passport service application order via the app, they will need to schedule an appointment to visit the embassy/consulate's application hall for fingerprint collection.
This new regulation will also change the previous practice of mail-in passport renewals. In the future, students holding electronic passports with fingerprint data will be able to conveniently use self-service immigration clearance when entering China.
Students who have already renewed their passports but have not recorded fingerprint information need not worry; they can still use manual channels for entry.
