This year's rankings cover 130 universities across the UK and 74 subject areas, providing important reference for school selection.

The Complete University Guide is compiled by Mayfield University Research. This year's CUG UK university ranking criteria remain unchanged, totaling 10 indicators:

CUG UK University Rankings Top 10
The UK higher education landscape has seen steady change, with traditional elite universities still dominating the academic frontier. The University of Cambridge continues its reign, retaining the top spot in the CUG rankings, once again edging out the University of Oxford in their centuries-old rivalry!
Other members of the G5 elite performed steadily: the London School of Economics and Political Science and Imperial College London secured 3rd and 6th places respectively, unchanged from last year. However, also a G5 member, University College London (UCL) suffered a setback, dropping four places to 13th and exiting the top 10 regrettably.
The biggest dark horse this year is Durham University: from 8th in 2024 and 7th in 2025, it has surged to 5th this year, showing immense potential. The University of St Andrews remains in 4th, continuing to lead Scotland.
Other institutions in the top 10 include the University of Bath (8th), the University of Warwick (9th), and Lancaster University (10th).

CUG UK University Rankings Top 20
This year's top 20 UK universities saw some movement compared to last year, with institutions rising and falling, reflecting increasing competition.
The University of York continued its strong momentum from last year, climbing five places (after rising four last year) to reach 12th, becoming a consistent "dark horse."
The University of Birmingham slipped one place to 14th, while the University of Bristol rose one to 15th. King's College London made impressive gains, jumping five places to enter the top 20 for the first time.
Meanwhile, some prominent universities experienced declines. The University of Edinburgh fell from 15th to 18th, and the University of Surrey also dropped, teetering on the edge at 20th.

Universities with Significant Ranking Changes
Within the top 50, many universities rose rapidly. Notably, the three fastest-rising universities are all located in Scotland:
Heriot-Watt University, up 17 places to 25th
University of Dundee, up 12 places to 39th
University of Aberdeen, up 11 places to 30th
Several other universities also performed strongly, achieving notable improvements this year:
University of Leicester, up 5 places to 31st
Queen Mary University of London, up 9 places to 41st
University of Portsmouth, up 7 places to 42nd
Bangor University, up 15 places to 53rd
Norwich University of the Arts, up 25 places to 57th
