Analysis of the 2025-26 U.S. News Global Universities Ranking
In this year's U.S. News Global Universities Ranking, US higher education institutions remain dominant, with 61 schools in the top 200. The UK and US continue to lead the world in higher education quality.
Harvard University remains number one globally, with MIT and Stanford continuing in second and third place.
University of Cambridge surpassed UC Berkeley, joining University of Oxford in fourth and fifth place respectively. UCL maintains a strong ranking this year, holding onto seventh place.
The University of Washington continues its impressive performance, ranking eighth in the world, still ahead of Yale and Columbia. As a university ranked 46th in the U.S. News National Universities ranking, UW's placement in the global ranking, surpassing institutions like Imperial College London, UCLA, Johns Hopkins, and Penn, is truly remarkable!
Princeton University, which has topped the U.S. News National Universities ranking for many consecutive years, still failed to break into the global top 10, ranking 16th this year.
Canada's highest-ranked university in the world is the University of Toronto, ranked 16th, up one spot from the last ranking. Australia has two universities in the top 30: University of Sydney (29th) and University of Melbourne (30th).
China's Tsinghua University rose five spots to 11th place, continuing to surpass the National University of Singapore and remaining first in Asia. Peking University also rose six spots to 25th.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that while Ivy League schools are often seen as the pinnacle of US higher education, Dartmouth and Brown are both outside the global top 100. This shows that in rankings emphasizing academic reputation, Ivy League institutions don't necessarily enjoy a consistent advantage.
