UC Transfer from Community College: Key Timelines After Submitting Your Application

返回新鲜资讯Back to News

Several UC campuses have recently extended their fall transfer application deadlines to January 6 of the following year, offering a valuable last-minute opportunity for students who missed the earlier deadline. CheersYou(清柚教育) reminds international students that submitting the transfer application is not the end of the process. There are still numerous follow-up steps to manage carefully, such as updating transcripts, sending supplemental materials, and responding to review emails from admissions offices. Regarding key post-application timelines, students must log in to update final fall grades and spring course information by January 31. While waiting for admission decisions between March and May, it is critical to maintain a strong GPA to avoid having any offers rescinded. By June 1, students must select their preferred campus, submit a Statement of Intent to Register, and pay the deposit to confirm enrollment. Finally, by July 1, final official high school and college transcripts must be sent to the admissions office to complete the entire transfer application process.

NEW! Fall 23 UC transfer application deadline extended to January 6, 2023!

As of now, five UC campuses—UCM, UCR, UCSB, UCSD, and UCSC—have announced that their Fall 23 application window has been extended to January 6, 2023. This provides over a month of additional preparation time beyond the original November 30 deadline.

Among them, UC Merced has extended both first-year and transfer application deadlines to January 2023, while the other four campuses extended only the transfer application deadline.

Does this extension hint that these UC campuses still have available spots for new students? Don't hesitate—go for it!

If you missed the November application but still want to apply to a UC, seize this final sprint opportunity!

Additionally, students who have already submitted their transfer applications must not let their guard down. After submission, there are various complicated procedures and deadlines to monitor.

Secondary updates to transcripts, sending supplemental materials, and possibly receiving review emails from UC Admissions due to incomplete information on your application…

CheersYou(清柚教育) has prepared a post-submission timeline with key reminders. Students who need it can save this and prepare accordingly at each stage.

What do I need to do after submitting my transfer application?

⏰ January 8 – January 31 | Update Your Grades

By January 31 of next year, all students who applied in November 2022 must update their final fall semester grades and spring semester courses they are currently taking or planning to take.

Even if you have no courses in progress or planned and your course record was complete in the original application, you must log into the application system and complete the Transfer Academic Update.

⏰ March 1 – May 1 | Admission Decisions

UC officially releases admission decisions usually no later than May 1. Students placed on a waitlist may not hear back until June.

Note that UC considers not only your pre-application grades but also your final semester grades at community college, which can affect your admission decision.

If your grades drop significantly, the admissions office may reconsider and revoke your offer of admission. So do not slack off—avoid letting your GPA slip in the final semester.

⏰ June 1 | Submit Your SIR

By this deadline, select your preferred UC campus and submit your SIR (Statement of Intent to Register).

Please note that you must also pay the enrollment deposit to officially confirm your place at that campus. You may accept admission to only one UC campus, and once you submit your SIR, you cannot transfer that acceptance from one campus to another.

⏰ July 1 | Submit Final Transcripts

By July 1, students enrolling in fall 2023 must send final official transcripts (high school and/or college) to the UC admissions office.

Transcripts can be sent by mail or electronically. Each UC campus may accept different formats, so be sure to check and prepare in advance.

⏰ July 15 | Submit AP/IB Scores

Official AP, IB, and A-Level exam scores must be submitted by July 15.

Winter/Spring Transfer TAG Application

Additionally, students planning to apply for a winter or spring TAG transfer to UC should note two important timeframes.

⏰ May 1 – May 31 | Submit Winter/Spring TAG Application

The six UC campuses that participate in TAG are:

UC Davis

UC Irvine

UC Merced

UC Riverside

UC Santa Barbara

UC Santa Cruz

Below are some specific requirements for signing a TAG agreement as listed on UCI's official website for reference:

1. Complete at least 30 semester or 45 quarter transferable units

2. Meet the minimum transferable GPA of 3.4

3. Complete one transferable math course with a grade of C or better

4. Complete one transferable English composition course with a grade of C or better

5. Complete a second transferable English composition course before transferring

6. Complete 60 semester or 90 quarter transferable units before transferring

7. Complete all major requirements (including prerequisites) and meet the minimum GPA

8. Be in good academic standing and meet all basic UC transfer requirements

9. Your final term must be completed at a California community college

There are many detailed conditions. Beyond the basic GPA requirement, there are explicit rules about term units and specific coursework.

Before applying for TAG, carefully check that your coursework meets each campus's agreement requirements, or you might lose the chance at your safety school.

⏰ July 1 – July 31 | Submit Winter/Spring UC Application

At the same time, students aiming for winter or spring admission should remember to submit their regular application through the UC application portal between July 1 and July 31.

There is still much to take care of after submitting your application, and the same goes for CC-to-UC transfers. We hope this article helps you.

Best of luck to all transfer applicants—may you all secure an offer from your dream school!
