Recently, the job review site Glassdoor released its 2023 Best Places to Work list!
In Glassdoor's 2023 100 Best Places to Work list, the recognized employers come from technology, pharmaceuticals, finance, consulting, manufacturing, and many other industries. Key reasons for inclusion are flexible work environments, improved benefits, and a stronger focus on work-life balance.
The ongoing impact of COVID-19 has changed the workplace landscape, driving remote and hybrid work models. Professionals are now demanding more flexibility and balance.
Meanwhile, many industries faced hiring freezes and mass layoffs last year. Effectively handling these challenges, doubling down on employee experience, and attracting and retaining top talent will be the next focus for major employers.
Glassdoor Ranking Methodology
This marks Glassdoor's 15th consecutive year publishing the list. To compile the study, Glassdoor experts analyzed millions of employee reviews and insights posted on the site between October 2021 and October 2022.
The list ranks top employers based on employee feedback on the company, work environment, compensation and benefits, cultural values, and more.
Highly rated companies typically offer ample career advancement opportunities, robust healthcare benefits, remote or hybrid work options, and clear, transparent communication between senior leadership and employees.
2023 Glassdoor List Overview
In this year's U.S. top 100 list, technology, finance, and consulting have the most companies, with 41 tech firms making the cut. Six of the top 10 employers are tech companies.
Three companies have appeared in the top 10 for three consecutive years: NVIDIA, Bain & Company, and Google. In-N-Out, a restaurant chain, cracked the top 10!
Among this year's top 10 tech companies, some are established names like NVIDIA and LinkedIn, but there are also newcomers: software company Gainsight and security firm CrowdStrike join the ranks.
In the 15 years Glassdoor has published this list, only one tech company has made the list every single year: Google.
Surprisingly, renowned tech giants like Apple, Zillow, and Meta all dropped off the list this year, falling out of the top 100!
Over the past year, both Meta and Apple have faced challenges. Meta laid off over 11,000 people and shifted its focus to the metaverse, a strategic change that left employees "a little unsure of what exactly to expect." The layoffs also hurt morale and could cause long-term damage to the employer brand.
Based on employee reviews, for Apple, the return-to-office policy may have been the culprit behind its fall from the list. Glassdoor's chief economist noted, "Employees really value being able to work remotely, or at least in a hybrid setting. It's fair to say employees did not embrace Apple's call to return to the office with open arms."
This year's new top entry on the Best Employers list: Gainsight, which skyrocketed to number one. Founded in 2009, the company builds platforms for customer success, product, and community engagement. In reviews, employees highlighted transparent leadership, diversity and inclusion, career opportunities, and flexibility—from remote work to unlimited paid time off.

10. In-N-Out Burger
