Program Introduction

 

As global concerns over business sustainability, society, and the planet continue to grow, managers need to understand how complex and multifaceted sustainability challenges affect their companies’ decision-making processes. The CUHK MSc in Sustainable Global Business (MSc SGB) program aims to equip individuals from diverse backgrounds to become ESG/sustainability management professionals from a strategic management perspective.

 

The program provides students with opportunities for hands-on learning and exposure to sustainability professionals across industries and countries. Students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to manage the impacts of climate change, carbon neutrality, human psychology, biotechnology, environment, ESG, sustainable finance, and ESG reporting on business decisions.

 

*Pending university approval, applications will begin in October 2023, with the first cohort expected to enroll in September 2024.

 

*Program duration: 12 months (full-time); 24 months (part-time).

 

 

Curriculum

 

To complete the program, students must complete a total of 30 credits, consisting of 3 required courses and 7 elective courses, each worth 3 credits. The elective courses offered may be subject to change.

 

*Students must fulfill all course requirements, pass all assessments, and achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 to graduate.

 

*Students with a cumulative GPA below 2.50 will be placed on academic probation. If the probation is not lifted after two consecutive semesters, the student will be required to discontinue studies.

 

*Students who receive a grade of D+ or below in a course must repeat the course or take an approved substitute.

 

Admission Requirements

 

  • Academic Requirement: A second-class honors bachelor’s degree or B-grade degree from a recognized university, or equivalent professional qualification.

  • Academic Background: No specific background required.

  • Language Requirement: TOEFL: total score 79 or above; IELTS: overall 6.5 or above (*A bachelor’s degree completed in Hong Kong, a degree program taught in English, or a recognized professional qualification obtained through an English examination also satisfies the language requirement.)

  • GMAT/GRE: Required (GMAT: Verbal score of 21 or above) *Undergraduates from CUHK’s partner business schools applying for full-time master’s programs are exempt from the GMAT or GRE requirement.

  • Application Fee: HK$400

  • 2024-25 Tuition: HK$270,000 (full-time); HK$200,000 (part-time)

  • *An interview may be required.

 

Career Prospects

 

Graduates of the SGB master’s program will be prepared for positions as ESG/sustainability management trainees or may find opportunities in a wide range of industries (e.g., financial services, logistics, retail trade, utilities, energy, pharmaceuticals, media, food and beverage, hospitality and tourism, etc.).
