1. Little and Often
First of all, GRE vocabulary mastery relies on repetition, repetition, repetition! Many students fall into a trap when memorizing words, thinking that the longer you dwell on a word, the better you'll remember it. However, that's a very forgettable memorization method.
We recommend that when memorizing words, minimize the time spent on each word and instead increase the number of times you see it.
For example, if you schedule 2 hours of vocabulary study per day and plan to learn 100 words, then go through those 100 words 3 to 5 times repeatedly. Once you can see a word and quickly recall its general meaning, start adding its synonyms and antonyms, upgrading from "English-Chinese" word memorization to "English-English."
3. Forget About Spelling
Some test-takers early in their GRE prep often think that using so-called "GRE advanced vocabulary" in the essay will earn them extra points.
But in reality, the GRE Official Guide does not require test-takers to use GRE vocabulary in the writing section. The GRE essay primarily tests critical thinking and the ability to develop ideas into well-developed, well-reasoned, and well-supported writing.
