The Columbia M.S. in Climate will be the school's second full-time program, lasting two years, with the first intake expected in the 2025-2026 academic year. Unlike the Master of Arts in Climate and Society also offered by the school, this program will emphasize quantitative research and a scientific understanding of climate. It will build a curriculum around a "climate core" with a minimum of 50 credits, aiming to cultivate future climate leaders.

The core curriculum of the M.S. in Climate will focus on "scientific understanding of climate, quantitative research, mitigation pathways, adaptation strategies and policies, justice frameworks, and social impacts." In addition to required core courses in quantitative research, the program offers elective modules in climate finance and economics, climate science, and data analysis to further strengthen students' quantitative research skills.

The Columbia M.S. in Climate plans to admit students for the 2025-26 academic year, with an initial class of 65 students, growing to 300 by the 2029-30 academic year.
Students interested in climate and environmental research who plan to apply for Fall 2025 or Fall 2026 should stay tuned!
