Although the number of exam takers dropped slightly this year, 4.38 million is still a huge figure. If we estimate the admission rate based on the average 25.4% over the past three years, over 3.2 million candidates still face the risk of failure.

01 Direct Interview Ticket and Generous Scholarships at Top Universities
As GRE recognition expands globally, some domestic universities have also begun to acknowledge GRE scores and consider them a plus in graduate applications. Examples include Peking University's Guanghua School of Management, Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management, Fudan University's Fanhai International School of Finance, Shanghai Jiao Tong University's Antai College of Economics and Management, and more.

Guanghua lists high GRE scores as one of the criteria to directly secure an interview. That is, as long as your GRE score reaches a certain level, you can "jump the queue" into the interview stage and also have a chance at generous scholarships.
Fudan University Fanhai International School of Finance
Fanhai not only includes high GRE scores as a direct interview qualification, but its FMBA program also offers special scholarships for high-GRE applicants. A GMAT score of 750+ or GRE score of 330+ can earn a 100,000 RMB scholarship.

SAIF's admissions brochure also states: a GRE score of 320+ (converted for GMAT scoring evaluation) can earn scholarships ranging from 20,000 to 50,000 RMB.
Bypassing to the interview stage helps reduce time and energy spent on exam preparation, letting you focus on interview readiness and achieve a higher admission probability. And after admission, there's a high chance of receiving a substantial scholarship.
02 Locking in Postgraduate Recommendation Qualification Early
Besides the exam, another route to graduate admission is participating in target schools' summer camps. Upon successfully passing the assessment, you can obtain a "recommendation exemption for graduate study" qualification. Among universities offering such qualification via summer camps, some directly require or only require applicants to submit GRE scores.

04 PhD Applications
Not just for master's, GRE can also bolster your PhD application.
Currently, main doctoral admission paths in China include: regular application, application-assessment/examination system, combined master-doctorate, early doctoral pursuit, direct doctoral admission, joint training/targeted assistance/research assistants, etc. Regular application and combined master-doctorate are common choices and require planning from undergraduate or master's stages. But in fact, GRE scores are also a plus factor for some doctoral applications.
For the application-assessment system, required materials include degree certificates, transcripts, supervisor evaluation forms, supervisor recommendation opinions, English proficiency proof, recommendation letters, research plans, personal statements, award certificates, patent proofs, and journal papers. Among optional English proficiency proofs, GRE scores taken within five years are included. Moreover, high GRE scorers can also receive exemption from the foreign language comprehensive test during the written exam stage!

Furthermore, GRE can help with waiving comprehensive English credits at domestic universities and applying for exchange programs. Therefore, the conclusion is: preparing for the GRE will neither delay domestic graduate applications nor detract when you later decide to study abroad—it will actually enhance your application.
For students who didn't pass the exam, don't get overly caught up in self-blame and doubt. Landing a spot via the exam is intrinsically a low-probability event, and with soaring competition in recent years, not making the cut is entirely normal—it does not reflect your ability or study methods. Students must first recognize this!
