Program Introduction
The University of Guelph's Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) is launching a new Master of Sustainable Agriculture (MSAg) program. It will equip students with the latest advances and skills in sustainable agriculture, data analytics, and agricultural technology innovation. With a focus on plant agriculture, livestock, or environmental science, the program provides an in-depth understanding of all aspects of the agricultural sector and how to mitigate its environmental impact. The first cohort will begin in Summer 2025. The University of Guelph ranks first in agricultural science in Canada.
The program emphasizes experiential learning, including hands-on field courses and site visits to major agricultural operations throughout Ontario, and will offer students opportunities to engage in projects with agricultural organizations. New students will start their first semester at the Ridgetown Campus, with accommodation, field courses, and agricultural site visits. After the semester, students will transfer to the main Guelph campus to complete the remaining coursework.

Career Prospects
The curriculum is designed to provide students with business models and strategies that promote economic, environmental, and social sustainability. Students will gain an understanding of corporate social responsibility regulations, acquire experience in ESG reporting, learn to respect and promote human rights in business operations, and contribute to global development. Graduates can pursue careers as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Managers, Marketing Strategists, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Analysts, Sustainability Consultants, and Policy Advocates, among others.
Curriculum
Program Duration:
16 months (four semesters)

The first semester begins in May at the Ridgetown Campus.

The second and third semesters take place at the main Guelph campus.

The fourth semester consists of an internship with an agri-food organization.
Course Credits:
4 compulsory courses (2.5 credits)
Statistics or Big Data Analysis (0.5 credits)
Social Science restricted electives (1 credit)
Elective courses in one of the following areas (1.5 credits):

Plant Agriculture: Explore topics such as plant physiology, biogeochemistry, breeding and genetics, and crop production systems.

Livestock Agriculture: Explore topics such as animal behavior and welfare, breeding and genetics, physiology, nutrition, and digital livestock analysis.

Environmental Sciences: Explore topics such as soil science, agricultural meteorology, controlled environments, integrated pest management, pollinator biology and conservation.

An honours bachelor's degree in agriculture, plant science, environmental science, animal biology, agricultural engineering, or a related field from a recognized university (GPA: minimum B-)
