Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service will launch a new Master of Arts in International Migration and Refugees program in Fall 2024. Here is the relevant information!
Program Overview
This program aims to provide students with theoretical and practical experience to understand global changes in population mobility. Through this major, participants will become influential advocates for global change and human rights in the migration field through immersive learning.
Curriculum:
- The program consists of three full semesters (Fall-Spring-Fall) and a summer internship, totaling 36 credits.
- Five core courses
- Students must choose one track: migration analytics or humanitarian practice, and complete three courses within that track.
- Proficiency in a second foreign language
- Complete a Capstone Project in the final semester
Admission Requirements:

- 500-word academic statement
- Two letters of recommendation from previous professors or supervisors
- Official academic transcripts
- TOEFL minimum 100, IELTS minimum 7.5
- GRE scores are optional
- Optional video statement
Program Features:
Students can complete a field internship during the summer with an organization dedicated to refugee and/or migration issues, gaining experience in development and human rights at international organizations. After graduation, students can pursue careers in the public, private, or multilateral sectors.
