According to the GRE official website, registration for the 2025 mainland China paper-based GRE tests opens on November 25 at 2:00 PM. Students can start checking available seats!
There will be 31 GRE test dates in mainland China in 2025, with at least one per month. Students can choose suitable sessions based on their own preparation pace.

If seats fill up later, students need not worry too much. The official will release additional seats irregularly every Wednesday and Friday at 10:00 AM. Please keep an eye out and book early.
Mainland China GRE Registration Process
01 Register an ETS Account
First, students need to open the official GRE registration website for China, click the 'Register New User' button below, and start filling in information to create an account.
Agree to the registration agreement and fill in basic information (Note: NEEA accounts for TOEFL and GRE are not interchangeable; you need to register a new account).
Fill in personal information.
After registration, use your NEEA ID and password along with a mobile verification code to activate your account. The NEEA ID number assigned by the Ministry of Education Examination Center is used to log in, register for tests, and check scores.
Note: Right after registration, the system may not display your 'ETS Registration Number' immediately. It can take some time (usually between 5 minutes and 2 hours).
02 Top Up and Register for the Test
Log into your personal account using your NEEA ID and password to view your profile. After topping up your account, you can proceed with test registration.
Payment for the GRE test supports the following online payment providers:
- Alipay
- WeChat Pay
- CMB Netcom
- BOC Smart Pay
Select your test center and date. Click 'Register for a Test' on the left side of the homepage, then choose your preferred city and date.
After completing the test registration and the background questionnaire, a confirmation page will appear. You can later click 'View Registered Tests' on the left side of your account homepage to check your registration status.
Pre-Test Preparation & Important Notes
1. ID Card
Make sure to have your valid ID card ready in advance; you must bring it on test day to enter the exam room.
2. Confirmation Letter
It's best to print it out and bring it along. Many test centers used to be lenient and didn't strictly check it, but post-pandemic it may become stricter. We recommend having a copy ready.
3. Rescheduling or Canceling
You must submit a request at least 10 days before the test. Rescheduling requires that the new test date and center have availability, and a rescheduling fee of ¥388 will apply.
4. Time Interval
You can take the GRE up to five times per year, with a minimum 21-day gap between attempts. Please note that both at-home and paper-based tests count toward this total.
