These days, Maclean's magazine released the latest Canadian university rankings, the most referential and authoritative school rankings in Canada.
Maclean's magazine is a Canadian news weekly that mainly covers politics, economy, culture, and current affairs in Canada.
Founded in 1905, Maclean's is also Canada's largest-circulation news magazine, equivalent to Canada's "Time Magazine". Maclean's started publishing Canadian university rankings in 1991, and by 2022, this is its 31st year of the list!
In addition to the important "Reputation Rankings", Maclean's also categorizes schools into three types based on factors such as institutional nature, research funding, diversity of programs, and depth and level of research-oriented programs, and publishes corresponding category-specific academic rankings:
Medical/Doctoral
Offers a broad range of PhD and research programs; all listed universities have medical schools.
Comprehensive
Have a high level of research activity and offer a wide variety of program types, including professional degree programs.
Primarily Undergraduate
Mainly focused on undergraduate education.

University of Toronto continued to hold the top spot, ranking first in Maclean's university reputation survey for the seventh consecutive year. In other sub-categories of reputation, U of T also showed clear advantages, leaving others far behind.
Popular application choices among students—UBC, University of Waterloo, and McGill University—continued to take second to fourth places. McMaster monopolized all fifth places in this year's reputation rankings, closing the gate on the Top 5.

Medical/Doctoral University Rankings
McGill University topped the Medical/Doctoral list, continuing to hold the crown. Next came University of Toronto, UBC, McMaster, Queen’s, and Alberta.
Comprehensive University Rankings
In this year's Comprehensive University Rankings, Simon Fraser University remained in first place, while University of Victoria rose one spot to tie with SFU for first. University of Waterloo and University of Guelph placed third and fourth, respectively.
Primarily Undergraduate University Rankings
In the Primarily Undergraduate category, UNBC jumped from fifth place last year to the top spot this year, while Trent University in Ontario also made significant progress, rising from eighth last year to third.
Top Five Program Rankings
This year, Maclean's continued to rank the top programs in five fields: Nursing, Business, Computer Science, Education, and Engineering.
This is the seventh year for these program rankings, which mainly assess the reputation of programs in terms of quality and research strength. Over 1,200 professors, deans, and chairs from 80 Canadian universities responded.

This year, over 19,000 students participated in Maclean's online survey, sharing their views on professors and staff, dormitory life, extracurricular opportunities, and experiential education such as co-op programs.

Under the new trend of multi-country applications, Canada is even more popular than ever.
