The 27Fall application season hasn't officially begun yet, but the U.S. undergraduate early application landscape has already seen new changes.
Recently, the University of Florida officially announced: starting with the Fall 2027 admission cycle, the school will for the first time open an Early Decision (ED) application option.
This means that this Top 30 public flagship university will officially transition from an EA+RD model to a three-track application system of ED, EA, and RD.

Most notably, UF's ED deadline is not the common November 1, but October 15, a full half-month earlier than the early application deadlines of most U.S. universities.

USC will add an Early Decision round starting with the 27Fall cycle.
Except for schools with special artistic review requirements such as the School of Dance, the School of Music, and the School of Dramatic Arts, most undergraduate programs will open for ED applications.
Students applying ED will not be allowed to apply to other institutions' early admission programs simultaneously, and must submit their applications by November 1, 2026.

Washington University in St. Louis Adds EA Round
WashU will add an EA round starting with the 27Fall cycle.
After the adjustment, WashU officially becomes a three-track system of ED+EA+RD, giving students aiming for Top 20 schools another great option.
At the same time, WashU is starting to factor in applicants' Demonstrated Interest into the admissions review process. Ways to demonstrate interest include campus visits, online information sessions, chatting with current students, joining the ZeeMee community, attending high school presentations, and more.

University of Michigan Retains ED Round
The University of Michigan Ann Arbor added an Early Decision round starting from the 26Fall application cycle.
This year, despite a campus resolution calling for a suspension of the ED policy, UMich ultimately decided to retain this application round, reflecting that the school still views ED as an important way to lock in high-quality students early.

University of Chicago Unveils “ED0” Round
UChicago has introduced an application mechanism earlier than traditional ED. Although many refer to it as "ED0," this is not the official name; the formal program is called Summer Student Early Notification (SSEN).
