CheersYou (清柚教育) held a lecture on studying medicine in the United States at Tianjin Medical University. The keynote speaker was Chen Yonghao, a senior consultant at CheersYou.
The purpose of this lecture was to help students better understand the details of pursuing medical studies in the U.S., so they won't be completely in the dark when facing study abroad preparations in the future!
To give everyone a preliminary understanding at the start of the formal presentation,
the senior consultant began with a self-introduction:
Served as a Graduate Assistant in Industrial Engineering at New York University (NYU) from 2013 to 2015;
Served as an International Education Consultant for the Education Association of China and the US (EACT) from 2015 to 2017;
Worked as a consulting advisor at CheersYou from 2015 to 2017;
These rich experiences have given him profound expertise in studying abroad in the United States.
Since this presentation primarily focused on the medical field, the senior consultant explained in detail the three major challenges for medical students applying to U.S. programs:
Strict prerequisite course requirements, GPA conversion, and letters of recommendation within the authoritative U.S. system.
The timeline for obtaining a Medical Doctorate in the U.S. is: 4 years (undergraduate) + 2 years (basic sciences) + 2 years (clinical rotations),
and the cost is approximately $500,000 USD.
Of course, such a complex and advanced field as medicine requires detailed breakdowns. Therefore, in the following session, the consultant provided explanations for different areas within medicine,
including veterinary medicine, dentistry, clinical medicine, and pharmacy. This allowed students to better understand which field they might like or suit best!

The senior consultant highly recommended the field of pharmacy. Compared to other majors, pharmacy has lower entry barriers, meaning students have a higher chance of successful admission~
Regarding other application directions, the consultant indicated that bioinformatics is not worth considering. Students interested in this area should think carefully~ Changing direction might yield better results!
On the contrary, Public Health is highly recommended. It is a science that adopts a "prevention-first" health policy, exploring the relationship between human disease and health from a population perspective, preventing disease occurrence, controlling disease development, and promoting health.
It is further divided into four major fields: Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Global Health, Health Policy, and Environmental and Occupational Health.
The future career prospects in Public Health are also quite promising, including positions at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), universities and other research institutions, and non-profit organizations.
Given the complex doctor-patient relationships today, Public Health is truly an excellent choice~ Students, don't miss out!
Finally, the senior consultant outlined the specific process for applying to study abroad, which is roughly divided into the following 5 steps:
