Boston University's College of Arts & Sciences recently announced:
The launch of three new interdisciplinary master's programs, adding concentrations in Quantum Science and Engineering, Applied Economics and Data Science, and Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

These three new programs target the rapidly developing fields of quantum computing, data-driven economics, and artificial intelligence, further breaking down the boundaries between traditional disciplines.
The newly added programs combine rigorous academic training with real-world problem-solving, aiming to help students enter fast-growing frontier industries.

Boston University's newly launched Master of Science in Quantum Science & Engineering (QSE) is the first program of its kind in New England.

This program adopts an interdisciplinary training model, integrating fields such as physics, mathematics, chemistry, computer science, materials science, and electrical engineering. Through rigorous theoretical study and practical experience, it prepares students for cutting-edge career paths in the quantum industry.
The program is STEM-designated, delivered on-campus, with fall admission. It requires the completion of 32 credits. Full-time students typically complete the degree in 2 to 3 semesters.

Leveraging Boston as a major global hub for quantum research and innovation, students can access quantum hardware, participate in faculty-led research, and gain internship opportunities with industry partners.
The program welcomes applicants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, but requires an undergraduate major in physics, engineering, chemistry, computer science, or mathematics, with a recommended GPA of 3.0 or higher.
In addition to relevant academic backgrounds, applicants are generally expected to possess strong mathematical and analytical skills, including a foundation in linear algebra and multivariable calculus. It is also advantageous to have exposure to modern physics, physical chemistry, or computational tools, and/or some programming experience.

Master of Science in Applied Economics and Data Science

Boston University's new Master of Science in Applied Economics & Data Science is a STEM-designated program jointly developed and taught by the Department of Economics and the Faculty of Computing and Data Sciences.

The program combines rigorous economic analysis with advanced data science tools, aiming to help students tackle global economic challenges and make data-driven decisions. The curriculum emphasizes real-world industry applications, cultivating the practical and analytical skills students need.
The program is delivered through in-person classes, requiring the completion of 10 courses for a total of 40 credits. In addition to core courses, students must complete four elective courses, which can be selected from offerings in both economics and data science, allowing them to customize their study path according to their interests and career goals.

For applicants with an undergraduate background in Economics or Business, it is recommended that they possess strong quantitative and programming skills, and have completed at least two courses covering calculus, basic linear algebra, basic probability theory, and statistics. Specifically, in calculus, they should have a certain understanding of multivariate differentiation and constrained optimization.
Students from fields such as Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or Computer Science are also suitable candidates for application, but they need to have an interest in economics and a foundational background, including having taken intermediate-level microeconomics and macroeconomics courses, as well as having been exposed to courses related to economics, finance, or policy.

The priority deadline for Fall admission is January 15, and the final deadline is March 15; the application deadline for Spring admission is October 1. After the Final Deadline, the university may continue to review applications based on remaining availability.

The new Master of Science in Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence (Online MS in Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence) is delivered 100% online, primarily targeting working professionals who wish to further enhance their technical skills.
Developed and taught by the BU Department of Computer Science, this program combines a solid foundation in computer science with modern artificial intelligence, cultivating students' ability to design, build, and deploy intelligent systems.

The program consists of 30 credits and 10 modules, typically completed part-time over four semesters. The total tuition is fixed at $25,000, with intake available in both Fall and Spring.
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and have coursework background in computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, physics, or related fields.
