The global outbreak of the pandemic has tormented the hearts of countless parents and students. Parents are reluctant to hinder their children’s academic advancement, yet they worry about their safety abroad.
Is there no way to have it both ways? Of course there is!
Overseas joint programs are an excellent choice. CheersYou(清柚教育) has compiled a list of some world-class overseas joint programs here, hoping to provide students and parents with more options to consider.

Johns Hopkins University & Tsinghua University
The Dual MA in Global Politics and Economics jointly offered by Tsinghua University and the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) is the first global governance dual degree program established between a Chinese and an American university.
This program aims to cultivate international governance talents capable of global-level policy analysis, design, and implementation, combining teaching with policy training to shape international high-end 4G talents.
The program lasts two and a half years: the first year is spent at Tsinghua University, and the following three semesters are completed at JHU.

Upon graduation, students will receive master’s degree certificates from both universities: a Master of Law from Tsinghua University and a Master of Arts from Johns Hopkins University.
Duke Kunshan University
Duke Kunshan University is a non-profit Sino-American joint venture university co-founded by Duke University in the United States and Wuhan University in China. It was officially approved by the Ministry of Education in September 2013 and welcomed its inaugural class in the fall of 2014.
The undergraduate and graduate programs at Duke Kunshan University inspire students to gain a deeper understanding of their respective graduate fields to meet the challenges of a globalized career. Note: graduates of Duke Kunshan University’s graduate programs receive a Duke University degree.
Master’s programs include:
-
Master of Electrical and Computer Engineering
-
Master of Environmental Policy
-
Master of Science in Medical Physics
-
Master of Science in Global Health
-
Master of Management Studies
NYU Shanghai
As early as 2012, NYU Shanghai, jointly established by New York University and East China Normal University, officially came into being. Co-founded by the former president of East China Normal University, the former president of Cornell University, and a Yale professor, this university has attracted much attention since its inception.
The recommended program here is NYU’s Social Work. This is a two-year program, with the first year spent in Shanghai, China, and the second year in New York for study. Not only does the program offer flexibility in study location, but the school also provides internship opportunities, making the overall program highly valuable.

Meanwhile, NYU Shanghai also offers many one-year master’s programs to choose from, such as Data Science, Quantitative Finance, Education, etc., all taught by professors from New York University. These are ideal for students who wish to enjoy top-tier overseas educational resources without traveling far abroad.
Shanghai Vancouver Film School
In 2014, the Vancouver Film School of Canada and Shanghai University jointly established the Shanghai Vancouver Film School, with director Jia Zhangke serving as the dean. The school currently offers programs in Film Production, Sound Design for Visual Media, 3D Animation and Visual Effects, Film and TV Makeup Design, and Game Design.
Alumni of this school are mostly active in the Chinese film and television industry, participating in the production of numerous films, TV series, variety shows, and animations, including well-known works such as The Founding of a Republic, Eternal Love, and Go Fighting.

Program Advantages
During this special period, many parents are even more reluctant to send their children abroad, yet they still hope their children can receive a world-class education. At this stage, the advantages of overseas joint programs are particularly prominent. Students can first study in China, and then go overseas to complete their studies once the pandemic stabilizes in the second year.
It is worth noting that the degree certificates obtained after completing these programs are the same as those from the corresponding American institutions. For instance, the degree certificate from New York University obtained at NYU Shanghai is no different from the one earned by studying on the NYU campus.
Note ⚠️
Applying to these programs is no different from applying to American graduate programs; it also requires submitting an online application, essays, recommendation letters, transcripts, language test scores, etc. Under the recent special circumstances, participating in a Sino-foreign joint program is indeed a good choice. The pandemic will eventually pass, and we cannot let these external factors rewrite our lives or affect our pace of progress and future career plans.
We hope everyone can realize their academic dreams!
