NYU Shanghai and Stern Launch New MS Programs in Organization Management & Strategy and Marketing & Retail Science

返回新鲜资讯Back to News

Shanghai NYU and NYU Stern School of Business jointly launched two new master's programs: Organization Management & Strategy and Marketing & Retail Science. Graduates will receive an NYU Master of Science degree recognized by China's Ministry of Education. Leveraging Stern's top business resources and NYU Shanghai's local advantages, the program offers innovative curricula and an advisory board of senior industry leaders from companies like Disney and Microsoft, providing students with rich corporate practice and one-on-one career guidance to help them seize opportunities in Asia's fast-growing markets.

Although this program is highly valuable and has broad career prospects, its tuition has been rising annually in recent years, now exceeding $60,000 per year, close to the NYU main campus level. CheersYou(清柚教育) reminds study-abroad families that when facing such highly sought-after joint programs, they should comprehensively consider their financial budget and career plans, rationally evaluate the cost-effectiveness, and make the most suitable application decision.

This year, NYU Shanghai and NYU Stern School of Business have launched two new master's programs:

Organization Management & Strategy

MS in Organization Management and Strategy

Marketing & Retail Science

MS in Marketing and Retail Science

Both joint master's programs will grant a New York University master's degree, with the first cohort starting in June 2022. Applications are currently open.

Marketing and retail have undergone dramatic changes over the past decade, and the Asian market led by China is bringing new transformations to future organizational forms and marketing strategies. These two new programs prepare the next generation of young professionals to thrive in Asia's rapidly developing markets.

As early as 2018, NYU Stern and NYU Shanghai launched two business master's programs: Data Analytics & Business Computing and Quantitative Finance, which support study in both locations and also grant an NYU Master of Science degree.

The joint programs have been highly popular since their inception. Now with two more programs added, students have even more choices, which is really tempting.

However, we have found that the tuition for these joint programs is not only close to that of NYU's main campus but has also been rising annually since 2018—from $58,000 a year to over $60,000 now.

This once again makes people wonder: are these two new joint programs worth including in your application list?

Pros and Cons of the Programs and Suitable Candidates

Pros

Similar to the two previously launched programs, these new ones are short and intensive, aiming to pave the way for students' career development in China, Asia, and globally, by enhancing professional skills and expanding career opportunities.

In terms of curriculum, faculty, and alumni resources, they maintain NYU's high standards. For career support, the school provides one-on-one career counseling and exclusive job fairs where top companies come to recruit, making it easy for students to network and find internships and jobs.

Compared to Stern's strict work experience requirements, these joint master's programs have lower requirements for work experience, making them more friendly to fresh graduates with limited experience.

Additionally, as newly launched programs, the number of applicants may be relatively small, increasing the chances of admission.

Cons

Of course, one-year programs are short; you only study in New York for one summer, the campus environment and surrounding atmosphere may not feel "international enough," the high tuition, and the application process is almost the same as NYU's, not saving time or effort. These disadvantages are obvious.

Moreover, neither program allows enrollment deferral. If you are admitted but later decide to defer for other plans, your offer will be voided, and you must reapply through the full process.

Additionally, neither program qualifies for OPT after graduation, nor are they STEM-designated.

For students aiming to work and intern in the US in the future, there may be more cost-effective and attractive program options available.

Suitable Candidates

Overall, these two new programs at NYU Shanghai are best suited for students who like the business directions of organizational management or marketing and retail, don't mind studying in two countries, want to attend a top business school but lack sufficient experience and competitiveness, and aim to work in China or at well-known companies in Asia after graduation.

Regardless of which university's program it is, there is no absolute "worth it" or not. Students should carefully analyze their own situation and seriously consider specific school selection issues.

The 2022 application season has officially kicked off, with many program portals already open. To secure early admission to top schools, early planning is key!

We also wish everyone all the best in the new application season and success in getting into your dream schools~
