The QS World University Rankings, compiled by global higher education analytics firm QS Quacquarelli Symonds, are released annually to help prospective students find top schools of interest.
This year, QS compares and analyzes the performance of 1,500+ universities across 106 higher education systems worldwide.

Overview of the 2027 QS World University Rankings
This year's QS World University Top 20 continues to be dominated by US and UK universities.
MIT tops the list for the 15th consecutive year; Imperial College London once again surpasses Oxford and Cambridge to become second in the world and first in the UK; Stanford, Oxford, and Harvard round out the top five; ETH Zurich and the National University of Singapore remain the only two non-US/UK universities in the top 10.
Caltech achieves its best ranking since 2023, placing 7th. Yale University (16th) and Johns Hopkins University (20th) have returned to the Top 20 this year.

The performance of Hong Kong universities is equally impressive. The University of Hong Kong remains firmly in 11th place globally, while the Chinese University of Hong Kong has achieved its best-ever result by entering the global Top 20 for the first time. The continued ascent of Hong Kong universities once again demonstrates their strong competitiveness in international higher education.
In Asia, a total of 52 universities from Mainland China saw their rankings rise, with Peking University still the top mainland institution and ranking 13th globally. Singapore holds two spots in the global top 15.
In Europe, Italy was one of the most improved countries, with 56% of its ranked universities seeing their positions rise compared to last year, led by the Politecnico di Milano (87th).
