Singapore's "talent war" has taken a new turn!
The NUS MFE Financial Engineering program has added a January Intake.
Starting from the 2026 academic year, two intakes will be offered annually. The first batch of students will officially enroll in January 2027.

Applications for the January 2027 intake will open on March 1, 2026, and close on May 15.
The NUS MFE is an interdisciplinary program that integrates finance, mathematics, and computer science, emphasizing practical application to solve real-world financial problems.
The program aims to equip finance and banking professionals as well as recent graduates with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in financial innovation and technology, covering areas such as financial product development, price modeling, hedging, investment techniques, risk analysis, and computational methods.

The NUS MFE has long been a popular master's program for international students. This newly added intake provides a fresh opportunity for those who missed the fall intake and wish to start in spring.
At the same time, a new wave of application competition is approaching, so interested students are advised to prepare as soon as possible.
Singapore Universities Are in a Fierce Battle for Talent
Last year, for the fall 2026 intake, Nanyang Technological University launched an invitation-only early admission round, exclusively for invited students.

Regarding the early admission plan, NTU's official statement is as follows:
"For shortlisted applicants, the NTU Admissions Office will proactively contact them and complete the subsequent admission process. Those successfully admitted through the early round will be the first to receive formal admission offers for the August 2026 intake. Applicants not shortlisted for the early round will have their materials automatically transferred to the regular admission cycle for review."

Compared to NTU, the National University of Singapore is already a veteran in early admissions battles. Every year in May, applications open, and 14 coursework-based master's programs across 7 departments in its Faculty of Science offer a priority admission option.

In "early admission" rounds, Singapore universities tend to favor students from overseas universities or top Chinese universities (985/211), or those coming through institutional partnership referrals. NUS has also previously stated that it recommends this application route for students with thoroughly prepared materials or consistently outstanding academic and practical achievements.
Moreover, admission trends change every application season, and whether one can be "rescued" from the waitlist is a matter of luck. Students from non-prestigious Chinese universities (non-985/211) or those without particularly standout backgrounds are advised to proceed according to their own capabilities.
In any case, early planning, early application, and early offer are the timeless winning formula of every application season.
