QS just released the 2021 World University Rankings!
This marks the 17th edition of the QS global university rankings. This year's indicators include:
Academic Reputation 40%
Based on survey responses from over 94,000 academics
Employer Reputation 10%
Based on survey responses from over 44,000 employers regarding university and graduate employability
Citations per Faculty 20%
Measures research impact, calculated by dividing the total number of citations of a university's research papers over five years by the number of faculty members
Faculty/Student Ratio 20%
Represents teaching scale, calculated by dividing the number of students by the number of faculty, which can be used to gauge class sizes
International Faculty Ratio 5%
One of QS's two internationalization indicators, measuring the proportion of non-domestic faculty at the university
International Student Ratio 5%
The second internationalization indicator, measuring the proportion of non-domestic students at the university, which also indicates its ability to attract talent from around the world.
2021 QS World University Rankings Top 10
The top three universities are once again swept by the US. MIT remains in first place for the ninth consecutive year, with Stanford University and Harvard University taking second and third place.
2021 QS World University Rankings: US and UK Top 20
Top US universities continue to lead the world in excellence. Caltech rose to fourth place this year, surpassing Oxford, which held fourth last year.
The highest-ranked UK university is still Oxford, with the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, and University College London also in the top 10.
Overall, more than 74% of universities in both the US and the UK saw their rankings decline this year. The QS Research Director also advised: "UK and US universities need to make concerted efforts to ensure they remain attractive to talented academics and students in the future, and continue to collaborate on groundbreaking research projects with countries around the world."
2021 QS World University Rankings: Chinese Mainland Performance
This year, a total of 41 institutions from Chinese mainland are ranked, with 9 making their debut. Tsinghua University is the top-ranked, moving from 16th to 15th place globally, setting a new record for Chinese universities.
The continuous improvement of higher education in China in recent years is also worth global attention.
