How Difficult Were This Year's A-Level Exams?
In the 2025 summer A-Level exam session, CAIE Cambridge International used region-specific papers for the first time in China, covering six popular subjects: Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, and Biology.
According to information released on the exam board's official website, this year's grading criteria maintained the uniform principle: "No matter which version of the paper a candidate takes, the performance standard required to achieve a certain grade is the same globally, and we ensure overall difficulty remains consistent."

This also means that fairness of results is guaranteed across regions and cohorts, especially since there were over 680,000 candidates in 2025, a 9% surge from last year.
As soon as results were out this year, they quickly flooded social media, with many candidates and parents immediately comparing them to previous years.
Compared to the frequently taken AZ papers in previous years, this year's China-specific AC papers showed relatively stable grade boundaries overall, and Chinese students' A* success rate remained roughly the same as before.

However, for Further Mathematics, compared to last year's AY paper (A* boundary of 210), the China region paper this year saw the A* grade boundary soar to 226, the highest on record, with a maximum difference of 16 points compared to other global regions.
This indirectly indicates that the China region's Further Mathematics paper may have been relatively easier, allowing candidates to generally score higher and thus pushing up grade boundaries.

Results Meet Expectations
Congratulations on overcoming the final hurdle in your application journey! There is no need to panic; just complete the following steps.
Log into the UCAS Track system and confirm whether your grades have met the conditional offer. If they have, the university will usually issue an unconditional offer within 48 hours.
After receiving the unconditional offer, promptly pay the deposit, confirm accommodation, and prepare materials such as the CAS letter and proof of funds for your visa.
Once everything is done, you can relax and look forward to the start of term!
Results Fall Short of Expectations
If this round of results is not ideal, first stay calm, contact the admissions office of the relevant university to explain and negotiate, or try the following:
Appeal: If you missed by just 1–2 marks compared to your mock exams or predicted grades, and you are confident about your exam performance, you can apply for a remark within the school’s deadline (usually 1–2 weeks).
Clearing: Use the UCAS Clearing system to find universities with available places. Clearing opens from results day until mid-October, but places in popular programs disappear quickly, so it is advisable to contact admissions offices directly on results day to confirm opportunities.

After meeting AS expectations, quickly shift focus to "bonus items" for the application season.
Start preparing for A2 study and exams according to your target major, and use the summer to participate in subject competitions or research projects to enrich your academic profile.
Review your existing activities, select those highly relevant to your intended major (such as business competitions, lab internships), and provide strong evidence of "academic passion" in your personal statement.

For AS students, the biggest chance to turn things around often lies in autumn retakes. It is advisable to promptly discuss with your teachers whether to appeal or take the autumn exams.

Check target university standards: Some programs have strict limits on the number of retakes allowed, so be sure to review the university's "Resit Policy" on their official website in advance to avoid application restrictions.
