UCB and UCLA remain the most difficult schools for admission. In particular, UCLA's average admitted GPA for transfers is as high as 3.7–3.95.
This means students must maintain a GPA as close to 4.0 as possible to make their application stand out. However, compared to 2019 admission data, UCLA's admission rates for both freshmen and transfers have been rising, while UCB's transfer rate saw a slight decline, with more applicants but fewer admissions.
Overall, the admitted GPA for engineering majors is higher than the school's average admitted GPA, making the competition very fierce. However, for less popular majors like Dance, Music, or History, the GPA requirements are not as high.

In recent years, the number of students applying to UC Irvine has surged, and the admission rate has been declining year by year. A few years ago, UC Irvine's admission rate was around 50%–60%, but in 2020 it nearly fell below 40%.

UC Santa Barbara has been on a strong upward trajectory in recent years, with its ranking steadily rising. Its admission rate increased by 8% in 2020, a significant improvement. Students who like UCSB should definitely consider applying.
The data for UCSD, UCI, and UCSB are comparable, with GPA ranges around 3.4–3.85. Except for UCSD, the other two schools offer TAG Programs that guarantee transfer admission. This makes them somewhat less challenging compared to UCB and UCLA.
At the same time, it's easy to see that the transfer admission success rates from community colleges to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, and UCSB are far higher than freshman admission rates. The highly competitive UC system that freshmen strive so hard to get into can be somewhat easier through the community college transfer route.

The remaining three schools are UCR, UCM, and UCSC, commonly referred to as safety schools. These three not only offer TAG Programs for guaranteed transfer, but also have less stringent GPA requirements.
Especially for UCR and UCM, the lower end of the admitted GPA range has dropped below 3.0. This can be a good option for students with lower grades who still want to attend a prestigious public university.
UC Historical Admission Numbers Comparison
UCB's applicant pool has been steadily rising, but its admission rate dipped slightly in 2020 from 26% to 23%.
UCLA may have seen an increase in applicants in 2019 after ranking as the world's top public school in U.S. News, but admitted fewer; however, admissions increased in 2020.
For UCI and UCD, the overall data from 2018 to 2020 shows rising applicant numbers, but with admissions also rising, so acceptance rates remained more or less the same.
UCSB is a bit unusual: its applicant numbers have risen each year, but admitted numbers were low in the past. In 2020, admissions improved.
For UCSD, both applicants and admissions are up, but the admission rate has also risen. It seems UCSD has been lowering its threshold and expanding enrollment.
The remaining three schools—UCSC, UCR, and UCM—have relatively few applicants, with acceptance rates above 60%, making them relatively easy to get into.
